THANK YOU!!INTERNATIONAL TORNADO ASSOCIATION July Newsletter Dear Tornado Sailors, Website (www.tornado-class.org) As most of you might have noticed we were having some trouble with our webmaster and the ITA website had not been updated for quite a while. I am pleased to announce we now have a new website www.tornado-class.org The site has only just gone live on the weekend and is currently under construction and you may find areas of the site not fully functional. Please be patient. Special thanks to Andrew Dowley our new webmaster, Paul Pascoe for restoring the base site and Oskar Johansson for the new domain and hosting. Tornado Worlds (28 August – 4 September, 2009) The Tornado worlds on beautiful Lago De Garda, Toscolano-Maderno, Italy are approaching quickly. Just a reminder that to avoid the late entry penalty fees, entries must be lodged by 31 July 2009. So please act now! Worlds information can be found from the ITA website (www.tornado-class.org) and/or the website from the organising club (www.centomiglia.it). AGM The International Tornado Association AGM is scheduled to be held at Toscolano-Maderno Garda during the World Championship on Wednesday 2nd September 2009. Further information can also be found on the website. ITA Committee 2010 There are a few spots available on the ITA Committee for next year. If someone is interested to be part of the ITA Committee and help the class in the future, please feel free to put in a nomination to whichever position you feel suited. Please note that all committee nominations need to be in and signed by the 2 August and published by the 5 August. All nominations must be made in writing to the Secretary, Patricia Kirschner (patricia@edge-ventures.com), with the agreement of the nominee, and shall be proposed and seconded by 5 full members of the Association. If you need any more information regarding this matter please contact one of the ITA committee members. 59th Centomiglia Del Garda-Lake Marathon World Cup 2009 The Tornado class has a special invitation to compete in the famous Centomiglia Del Garda, a fantastic long distance race around the beautiful Lake Garda from the host club of the Tornado World Championships after our championships on the weekend of 5 and 6 September. Further information can be found at www.centomiglia.it IOC Decision- 11th Medal The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will meet in Berlin on 13 and 14 August 2009. The primary focuses will be which 2 of the 7 candidate sports will be recommended for acceptance in the Olympic sports programme for the 2016 Games and the final approval of events and quotas featured in the Olympic sports programme for the 2012 London Games. ISAF and a number of National Olympic Committees have submissions for the retention of sailings 11th medal for the 2012 Olympics. If the IOC give ISAF a favourable decision and allow the 11th medal then the ISAF Executive board will be empowered to make the final decision on the discipline and class for the 11th medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London (Weymouth). So hopefully we will have a final decision when the Worlds start in Italy! I look forward to meeting you all at the World championship at Lake Garda! Enjoy the sailing season!
